VII. The Pink Bathroom

Olga was not the type, I fancy, that
Behaved coquettishly just like a cat
When her body knew what it intuited
She scooped Antoine into a room and did
Whatever they did over there, who knows?
Except we know they kept on all their clothes,
Which was a precondition of the zone
Where Pennsport Pub was authorized to run
A "Gentleman's Club" as they wrote in town
And likely Mayor Greene himself had signed
But Antoine never said a word to us
And neither was Olga keen to discuss
Their touch and whispered contact in the dark,
Or deep-felt ride which on contact embarked,

Except for one thing that the artist said
That had to do with something from his head
That he told Olga while they spent five times
Twenty from their nest egg on his lame rhymes:
"Dad won a million dollars on a suit
Against Bell Labs that said they were the root
Of my incessant need to fend off fear
By drenching my senses in revelry,
A segment in their Gateways to the Mind
That made my father livid every time
And I was tainted by, he told the judge,
Because I'd seen their cartoon scene too much
Where macabre men with beret caps worn on
Scare a man deprived of sense impression."

"We can see about that," Olga replied,
"But swear not to take more drink than you've tried
Account of my dad drank, frightening me
The night it was my bitter luck to see
Him hit her head with the bottle he'd had,
Draining the spirit that made him so mad,
My mother, who just dropped like marionette
Loosed from its sixteen strings all as a set."
"Just so you're not Penelope Peasoup
Who spread with Fogg on Batman  a 'sea poop'
Aloft to hide the means of their escape,
And spread across my eyes like any cape
A veil to hide your beauty and your charms,
I'll swear off alcohol and you ne'r harm."

He kept that vow for years and Olga was
Mother of his two kids and wife because
She cultivated every single day
Antoine looking at her in his delighted way;
In fact, their love never flickered, not once,
Even days when he missed seeing her face.
That first night, however, they spent the cash
Artist Antoine acquired by selling fast
A trove of cartoons for a magazine;
Soon after they removed to West Virgeen,
Living well off dividends Vern made from
The payment for what Antoine had become:
Artist and ex-addict who well amused
His beautiful bride and household they fused.
