The cracked form of Homer Poet is all that remains of the oral traditions of Hellenic times. A blunderbuss of a language that uses the word "incredible" interchangeably with "awesome" or "nice" and deploys "literally" to mean "what I am saying to you, now" diminishes our ability to express the nobility of mankind. Homer's dimensions of humanity may only be communicated in the abstractions of poetry, and we don't read. Thus, ideals handed down to each generation for thousands of years, will flounder and die with us. "Old folks left me another busted appliance!"
