Colloquy

My father, Andy, expressed himself with hardware store materials, like using suspended-ceiling panels instead of canvas. I was 8 or 9 when I watched him make "Water Lilies," fascinated with his use of a woodburning wand. My dad's example was to be liberated from the use of official art materials or the need to follow anyone's program but his own. Years after his death, I repurposed his original piece into a conversation between me and my model father.
